Connectivity

Whether you receive voice service from legacy telephony providers or from Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs), Zultys delivers full phone system functionality. Users gain access to the system from traditional handsets, mobile phones, desktop clients, softphones and Instant Messaging. MX systems can be integrated into your business environment through a number of methods, Telephony API (TAPI) being one of them.

The MX250 provides music on hold through an external connection or from its internal hard drive. Overhead paging is supported using a SIP based paging device, a FXS circuit or a 3 1/2 mm audio output. The system also provides paging through the phones which can be separated into multiple zones.

The MX250 can be deployed as an independent standalone system or be connected to other MX250 or MX-SE systems by either a corporate network or the open Internet.

G.729 voice compression is supported to reduce bandwidth requirement over a WAN.

The MX250 can be deployed as an adjunct to an existing legacy phone system or with the legacy phone system configured as an adjunct to the MX250. Either configuration provides a smooth migration path to SIP and SIP trunking with the realized benefits of cost, convenience and productivity advantages.

Fax Support

The MX250 and MX-SE include fax server functionality over any telephony interface. Incoming faxes can be answered by the MX and converted to a graphical file which can be sent via email to a user or retrieved using Zultys' unified communications interface, MXIE (MX Interface for End-users). To send an outgoing fax, users print to the MXIE fax printer from any available application. MXIE delivers the fax file to the MX and updates the sender on the outcome of the transmission.

Data Networking

There are two 10/100Base-T ports available on the MX main board, accessible on the rear panel of the system. One of these is connected to the client's LAN to provide connectivity to devices such as PCs and IP phones. Both circuits may be connected to separate Ethernet ports of two different data switches to provide redundancy protection against customer-owned data equipment failure. In this configuration, the switch-over relies on the spanning tree protocol of the MX250 to perform the handover, and is automatic and requires no human intervention.

The MX250 and MX-SE can function as an edge router and connect directly to an ISP (Internet Service Provider). Default and static routes can be provisioned to control the proper routing of voice and data traffic.

The system incorporates a firewall with NAT, for connection to the Internet. Also DHCP, TFTP, and NTP servers provide services within the enterprise. Any of these functions may optionally be disabled if they are provided external to the MX.

The MX250 and MX-SE provide SIP application layer gateway (ALG) functionality when the internal NAT and firewall functions are used. This allows users to make SIP calls outside of the private address space used within the enterprise.

The MX250 provides VPN functionality for up to 50 users. This allows remote users to securely access all functions of the MX250 and the corporate network. This function resolves many issues that traveling personnel are likely to encounter when attempting to connect via airport and hotel wired and wireless networks.

Connecting to a Phone

Zultys MX products provide multiple choices for supplying phone services to a user.

• Desktop: When deploying a standard SIP-based phone with a built-in switch, only a single Ethernet cable run is required to the desk. The SIP phone is connected directly to the local area network (LAN) through the first port of the built-in data switch with the PC connected to the other port of the switch. If two Ethernet circuits are already available at the desktop, one is connected to the phone and the other to the PC.
• Softphone:The multimedia capabilities of the PC may be used by connecting a headset to the appropriate jacks provided on the PC. In this case, the user may elect to run a softphone application on the PC and forego the use of a physical phone. Such an application allows station-to-station, external calls, and video calls to be made or received easily at a minimal cost to the enterprise. This application is also highly prized by remote workers and mobile users, regardless of their physical location. All that is required is a connection to the Internet.
• Any phone: With MXconnect^™ you can make ANY phone number (e.g. your home or mobile phone) an extension of your office, allowing you to not only answer your ringing extension from anywhere, but also place a call on hold or even transfer the call back to an internal extension using our state-of-the-art MXIE^™ CTI application. This new feature allows any phone with a direct access dial number to be designated within MXIE as your primary device, extending your corporate office environment to an analog or home office phone, a SIP phone, or even a mobile phone. All incoming and outgoing calls will ring via that number, and since calls can be initiated via MXIE this feature supports Least Cost Routing to save on your phone bills. In conjunction with other MX system features, Zultys provides a complete teleworker solution and allows anyone to work and connect from anywhere, including your inbound Contact Center agents.

BPS12 - Battery Power Supply

The BPS12 provides a reliable 48 VDC supply in a compact 19" 3U (5.25" high) chassis. It can serve as the sole power source for various network elements in the enterprise and provide uninterruptible power to those critical elements that need to remain active when commercial AC power fails. Unlike traditional off-the-shelf AC uninterruptible power supplies that are unreliable and complex to install, the BPS12 is an industrial grade backup power supply intended for use with communications and networking equipment.
